Installing a wireless (Intel 3945ABG) network card in a Toshiba Tecra M6 (Satellite U200)
The Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Wireless Network Card comes with the drivers and software in one package
#1 - first remove the battery, then the bottom-screws marked with the arrows
there are several size screws used in the laptop - each hole is marked with the appropriate screw-length for that position (F3, F4, F8, F16)
#2 - carefully pry the plastic cover off the upper portion of the keyboard. Remove the screws in the upper right and left corners of the keyboard.
#3 - the keyboard can be carefully lifted away from the chassis revealing the keyboard cable, two screws, and the two memory slots (under the silver cover on the right). Remove all three screws and the small plate covering the keyboard cable.
#4 - The flat ribbon cable connectors have a plastic lock that slides into place. To remove the cable just push the lock "up" and slip the cable out of the slot. Installation is just the reverse, slide the cable in then lock the connector.
#5 - Peel the two clear plastic covers away from the other cables in the middle of the chassis cover, then unlock and unplug the three small ribbon cables on the motherboard.
#6 - The cover can be lifted up and away from the chassis. A difficult cover can be carefully pryed away with a screwdriver, then pulled forward. There are no plastic tabs locking it in place. The wireless card is installed in the lower-center portion of the board under a metal shield (do not remove the shield).
#7 - The shield can be lifted away to reveal the motherboard and two antenna connectors. Peel the insultaing tape away from the antenna connectors and carefully slip the card into place. The card is secured with two small screws (you may need to acquire the screws elsewhere, or borrow a screw from the modem card)
#8 - This is how the final installation should look. There are two antenna connectors, the card indicates where the white and black cables plug in.
